In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Jennifer Aniston spoke about Matthew Perry and what she really thinks about a “Friends” reboot without him in the cast.
Perry died in 2023 at the age of 54 from accidental drowning after a ketamine overdose, a prescribed medication used to treat opioid use disorder.
When asked about a possible continuation of the sitcom, the “The Morning Show” actress was firm in her response: “It would be literally, physically impossible,” she said.
Aniston starred alongside Perry during all ten seasons of “Friends” from 1994 to 2004, and according to her, working on the sitcom was a fun refuge for the actor, who was already battling addiction to alcohol and drugs as well as depression.
“It’s heartbreaking that he had so many demons,” Aniston said. “But man, for someone who had so much inner turmoil, he sure laughed a lot, and that meant everything to him.”
According to the actress, her time with the cast — including Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc — was incredibly important not only for her career but also for her personal life.
“That completely shaped who I was. It was pure joy,” said Aniston. “I looked forward to it every day. I couldn’t wait to go to work. I couldn’t wait to see those people, I couldn’t wait to read the scripts,” she revealed.
“We would film the show every Friday night, and right after we finished, the new script for Monday morning would already be in our dressing room. I was just as excited to find out what would happen as the audience, I’m sure.”
