The Olaf robot, the beloved character from the film Frozen, experienced a comical malfunction while “talking” to the audience during its debut at Disneyland Paris.
The animatronic became known for its ability to move around the park on its own, a major technological leap compared to the robots already present inside some Disneyland attractions.
The robot was created by Disney’s Imagineering team and is powered by artificial intelligence, allowing it to interact with guests around the park while speaking in the voice of its original voice actor, Josh Gad.
After nearly a year in development, Olaf made its official debut last Sunday, March 29. However, just one day later, a video shared on social media showed the robot experiencing a technical issue during a live interaction.
While speaking with the audience, Olaf appears to suddenly shut down mid-sentence, falling backward as if it had suffered a sudden collapse. To make the scene even more comical, the carrot that forms its nose came loose from its face and rolled backward.
Audience members can be heard reacting with a mix of laughter, surprise, and concern. Disney staff quickly intervened, placing Olaf’s nose back in position and carefully removing the animatronic from the scene.
A video of the moment shared on TikTok has already amassed nearly 3 million views so far, along with more than 240,000 likes and thousands of comments from viewers surprised by the incident.
“[Does] Olaf have anemia?” joked one TikTok user. “Me when my social battery runs out in public,” admitted another. “Any excuse to leave work early,” said a third internet user. “It’s global warming, folks,” added another.
