Robert De Niro did not hold back his honest opinions about U.S. President Donald Trump during one of the No Kings protests, which took place in New York last Saturday (28).
“When the crowds are shouting: ‘No Kings,’ what I really hear, as we all know, is: ‘No Trump’,” said the 82-year-old actor over the weekend.
“There have been other presidents who have tested the constitutional limits of their power, but none has been such an existential threat to our freedoms and security—none, except Trump. He must be stopped, and he must be stopped now.”
The actor’s remarks were just the latest public criticisms he has made about Trump, having long rebuked the American president and his policies since the beginning of his second term.
Trump responded to the actor’s latest comments and suggested that he has a “syndrome” of obsession with him, referring to a term coined by the president’s supporters called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Speaking to Fox News, De Niro addressed the so-called “syndrome.” “People don’t like him for a reason. All the terrible things he has done,” the actor said in an interview with the outlet.
“He had the chance […] to do good things, not hateful ones, not revenge, not just completely malicious things. If he did good things, people would love him. But he has a problem. He is damaged.”
