White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters during a press conference in Washington on Monday (30) that high-ranking Iranian officials were killed because they “misled” President Trump’s administration.
Despite the threatening tone, Karoline Leavitt said the U.S. is still in negotiations with Iran and that “everything they say to us in private will be tested.”
“We will ensure that they are held accountable for their word,” the press secretary said.
“And if they are not, the president has already outlined the military consequences that the Iranian regime will face if it does not follow through on what we are hearing in private, behind the scenes,” she warned.
Karoline Leavitt also referenced a statement by President Donald Trump about “regime change” in Iran.
Trump was aboard Air Force One on Sunday (29) and said that the U.S. and Israel triggered the regime change following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the first day of the war on February 28.

He suggested that Iran has moved into its “third regime,” made up of leaders he described as “very reasonable.”
Leavitt explained that these individuals would be more reasonable than previous leaders, “who are no longer on planet Earth because they lied to the United States.”
“This is another historic opportunity for Iran to do the right thing, abandon its nuclear ambitions and reach an agreement with this president and his administration, or it will once again face the severe consequences of the U.S. Armed Forces,” she warned.
