Lewis and Curtis starred in “Anything but Love”, a sitcom that aired on ABC between 1989 and 1992. The series followed Marty Gold (Lewis) and Hannah Miller (Curtis), co-workers at a Chicago magazine, who dealt with a clear romantic attraction.
In a post on Instagram, the 67-year-old actress celebrated another sober year and spoke about the great influence Lewis had on this journey. The actor passed away in 2024 from a heart attack at the age of 76.
“27 years ago, I felt pain and sadness. I reached out, and my former colleague and friend, Richard Lewis, reached out and held my hand. The miracle of sobriety is that it only takes one other person to identify with what you’re feeling and THAT can change everything,” she wrote.
“Richard introduced me to many other people and, over these 27 years, I have met many people who share our common bond of addiction and recovery from this daily prison. I feel honored to be open with strangers, many of whom know me better than people I’ve spent my whole life with, and I try to honor all their courage and strength, and to have hope every day by doing what Richard did: reaching out to others who need it.”
Over the years, Curtis has spoken openly about her struggle with addiction, which, according to her, lasted a decade and turned her, as she previously described, into a “functional addict,” who managed to skillfully hide her addiction from friends and family.
