Trey John Green III, star of the fishing reality show Deadliest Catch, revealed that the death of his colleague Todd Meadows was captured by cameras on board the vessel.
Meadows died on February 25 after falling into the sea while he was aboard the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady, 275 km off the coast of Dutch Harbor in Alaska. He was 25 years old.
His death was only announced at the beginning of this week after a statement released by the U.S. Coast Guard. Now, Green revealed that Meadows’ tragic death was captured by the cameras on the boat.
“It was filmed, unfortunately. Discovery had already finished filming, but there was a producer and a deck cameraman on the boat during the last two months filming for season 22 of the show,” he told US Weekly.
“There is also a deck camera that records 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, everything, and it also captured the entire incident,” added Green, who called Meadows an “incredible human being” and said he does not believe the accident was “his fault.”
Green also said that when Meadows fell into the sea, the crew did everything they could to try to save him, but that “it is not an easy task” to rescue a colleague who has fallen overboard.
“He was recovered unconscious by the crew approximately 10 minutes later. First aid and resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, and the crew transported the deceased to Dutch Harbor,” said a spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard in a statement.
Discovery issued a statement mourning Meadows’ death. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Todd Meadows,” a representative of the network told Entertainment Weekly.
“This is a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his loved ones, his fellow crew members, and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time.”
