In “The Book of Sheen,” Charlie Sheen’s newly released memoir, the actor comments on an episode that took place when he was 10 years old and accompanied his father, Martin Sheen, on the set of “Apocalypse Now.”

Martin played Captain Willard, a U.S. officer tasked with assassinating Colonel Kurtz, played by Marlon Brando.

In his memoir, Charlie Sheen recounts his experience on set and his fascination with special effects. He recalls helping Fred Blau cover extras in fake blood.

Although he wasn’t present during the filming of one of Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic scenes, the actor reflected on a moment that traumatized him forever.

“A scene in which I was sitting in the front row made me wish I were still asleep on the Do Lung bridge,” he wrote.

“In a nighttime scene at KurComm [note: this is how he refers to the Kurtz Compound set], I watched a water buffalo get its head cut off,” said Charlie Sheen.

The animal wasn’t created with special effects but was in fact sacrificed by the group portraying Kurtz’s army.

“The offering is a ritual they’ve carried out for centuries, and Francis decided to symbolically intertwine the graphic images with the end of Kurtz’s command,” he continued.

Charlie Sheen said the scene was “brutal” and added that the buffalo was later eaten at a large banquet.

Sheen’s book also delves into his breakdown after being fired from the series “Two and a Half Men.”
