In an interview with “The Wall Street Journal“, the comedian and director made a rare statement about his 54-year-old wife, with whom he has two daughters, Bechet (26) and Manzie (25). According to Allen, Soon-Yi is “disciplined,” “decisive,” and “a wonderful mother.”
The couple’s relationship began in 1991 and caused a major public scandal, as Soon-Yi was the adoptive daughter of actress Mia Farrow, Allen’s partner at the time. Despite facing many adversities, the two married in Venice in 1997 and have been together ever since.
“If someone had told me years ago that I would marry a girl much younger than me, with no experience in New York or any of the similar interests I had in childhood, and that she would be a Korean orphan, I would have said: ‘No way. I’ll marry an actress from New York,'” the director said about his union with Soon-Yi.
“But that’s not how it turned out,” he concluded.
