The White House was heavily slammed by internet users after sharing an AI-generated image of Donald Trump as Mandalorian to celebrate Star Wars Day, marked by fans of the franchise on May 4.

“In a galaxy that demands strength — America stands ready. This is the way. May the 4th be with you,” the post’s caption says. It included a photo of Donald Trump dressed as the Star Wars character, holding a United States flag and carrying little Grogu in his bag.

Star Wars fans were quick to criticize the post. “Using Star Wars quotes to talk about military strength feels a little dystopian if we’re being honest,” one Instagram user wrote. “This caused a major disturbance in the Force today. Yikes,” another internet user said.

This is not the first time the White House has shared images of Trump inspired by Star Wars. For Star Wars Day in 2025, the White House posted an edited image of a muscular version of Trump holding a red lightsaber while surrounded by bald eagles.

“Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard to bring Sith Lords, murderers, drug dealers, dangerous prisoners and well-known MS-13 gang members back into our Galaxy. You are not the Rebellion, you are the Empire,” the White House said at the time.

Mark Hamill, who starred as Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy and The Last Jedi, spoke about the case at the time. “Well, first of all, I thought: ‘If he’s a Star Wars fan, he should know that he should be holding a green lightsaber.’ Not an evil red lightsaber!” the actor said on The View in June 2025.
