U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth drew attention during a rally in Kentucky after impersonating Donald Trump while recounting advice he received from the president before taking command of the Pentagon.
According to UNILAD, Hegseth reproduced Trump’s speaking style and characteristic gestures while recalling a conversation in which the president allegedly told him to “be tough” and remain fully focused on the mission.
The appearance took place during a campaign event for Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL backed by Trump in the Republican race against Congressman Thomas Massie in Kentucky.
However, Hegseth’s participation in the event sparked criticism for involving a Defense Secretary in a political activity during a period of military tensions involving Iran.
“Why is the defense secretary campaigning? Isn’t that illegal? At best, it’s highly inappropriate,” one internet user wrote. “No military leader should be campaigning. It’s not American. It’s unacceptable. It’s simply disgusting. What are we doing?”, another commented.
