Donald Trump once again drew attention on social media after posting a series of AI-generated images involving Greenland and the “Golden Dome” missile defense project.
According to the website UNILAD, one of the images shared on his social network, Truth Social, showed a giant Trump towering over a city in Greenland alongside the phrase: “Hello, Greenland!”
In another post, the president displayed a futuristic representation of the Golden Dome system protecting the White House from missile attacks. The Golden Dome is a missile defense project backed by Trump and inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome system. The president previously stated that he wants the system operational before the end of his term in 2029.
The posts reignited debates about Trump’s interest in Greenland, an autonomous territory belonging to the Kingdom of Denmark. Since the beginning of the year, the American president has advocated for greater U.S. control over the Arctic region for strategic and national security reasons.
“It’s so strategic. Right now, Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place. We need Greenland from a national security standpoint, and Denmark will not be able to do it,” he said aboard Air Force One in January.
He even threatened to impose 10% tariffs on NATO allies, including Denmark, if no agreement was reached for the acquisition of Greenland. After resistance from European leaders, Trump backed away from the threat and said he had discussed “the framework of a future deal” with Mark Rutte, while Denmark and Greenland continue to reject the proposal.
