After Chelsea’s 3–0 victory over PSG, Donald Trump presented the tournament trophy to Cole Palmer, who was named the best player of the competition. Palmer looked surprised when the U.S. president remained on stage.
Trump also gave a separate interview to the sports streaming service DAZN. During the live broadcast, he avoided talking about sports and focused instead on the economy and global politics.
“We’re doing really well on the other stage – the political stage, the financial stage,” said Donald Trump when asked by reporter Emily Austin about the future of the U.S. national team.
“All the leaders said, a year ago: ‘Your country was dead. Now you’re the hottest country in the world,’” he added, saying he would rename “soccer” to “football.”

Many internet users were upset and criticized both DAZN and FIFA for giving Trump a platform to talk politics during the final event.
“Why is DAZN airing a political interview with Donald Trump? This is absurd,” said Alfie House of the Daily Echo.
“This Trump interview is honestly embarrassing. DAZN and FIFA should be ashamed,” said another person.

Never mind how awful was that DAZN continuously politicised the game by spotlighting Trump at every chance.
The core football community, the real fans, were too scared to attend because of that very man.
Interviewing him was a slap in the face to everything football stands for. pic.twitter.com/7eioaZv3aL— Leyla Hamed (@leylahamed) July 14, 2025
