Donald Trump appeared in a video posted by the White House to talk about the administration’s initiative not to tax tips given to food delivery drivers across the country.
For the clip, a woman named Sharon Simmons, who was referred to as “DoorDash grandma,” appeared at the White House door while carrying two McDonald’s bags in her hands to make a delivery.
Trump then appeared to speak with reporters, who coincidentally were positioned outside while the whole scene unfolded. “This doesn’t look staged, does it?” the American president says to journalists.
After telling Simmons that the reporters were not “the nicest people,” Trump began talking to the delivery worker. “It’s a great honor to meet you. And I think you voted for me, didn’t you? […] I hear you’re a big supporter, and we appreciate that.”

The video quickly caught the attention of internet users, with many arguing they had seen Simmons before. That’s when a sharp-eyed X user recalled seeing Simmons at a hearing to approve Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill last year.
“Now it all makes sense, y’all. She’s a MAGA prop. Here’s DoorDash grandma at a Nevada hearing for the Big Beautiful Bill last year,” one posted, along with an image from the event that took place in July 2025.

“That’s certainly strange,” another analyzed. “DoorDash grandma also acted in Nevada. Are you running out of people for your stunts?” a third internet user jabbed.
Later, a spokesperson for the delivery app DoorDash commented on the controversy. “No one is claiming it was a real delivery. It was clearly and obviously a planned event to mark the launch of a new policy,” explained Julian Crowley, PR for DoorDash.
“Claiming that Sharon is a prop, an [infiltrator], or an actress is completely wrong and baseless. She is a Dasher and participated to support the policy that benefits her.”
“Of course, we spoke with Sharon about what to expect before she appeared in the media and with the president. But Sharon spoke for herself and in support of No Tax on Tips. Calling someone a prop for saying they support a policy that benefits them — and many others — is not fair,” he added.
