This year, Marilyn Monroe would have turned 100, and to celebrate the date, the full transcript of her final interview will be revealed to fans of the actress.

Just weeks before her death, Marilyn Monroe gave her final interview to Life magazine editor Richard Meryman, and recently, in celebration of what would have been her centenary, new materials from that conversation were released.

The iconic Hollywood star died on August 4, 1962, at the age of 36, and to this day there are still questions about the final months of her life.

This week, People magazine published an exclusive excerpt from Monroe’s interview with Meryman, along with exclusive photos from her final photo shoot with Allan Grant.

In the roughly eight-hour conversation, Marilyn revealed an introspective side, spoke about her humble origins, her loves and, of course, her career as an actress.

“I decided I wanted to be an actress when I was five. Some of my foster parents used to send me to the movies to get me out of the house, and there I would sit all day and late into the night — at the front of the theater, a tiny little child alone, and I loved it,” she said about her childhood.

Speaking about fame and her career, Marilyn also recalled her notorious birthday performance for President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden in 1962: “There was a deathly silence in the place. I didn’t think I was going to say anything. When I got to the microphone, I took one deep breath and suddenly thought: ‘Here I go!’” she revealed.

But even though she was adored by millions of people around the world, Monroe commented on how she truly felt: “You know, most people really don’t know me.”

The article, originally titled “Marilyn Monroe: In Her Own Words”, was published on August 3, 1962, just two days before her death.

On May 12 of this year, the book “Marilyn: The Lost Photographs, The Last Interview” will be released, presenting for the first time the complete transcript of the recordings from her final interview.

Marilyn Monroe died on August 5, 1962, at her home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. The official cause was a barbiturate overdose.
