Just as when actors smoke in front of cameras, they are not smoking real cigarettes, but rather an herbal substitute free of addictive substances, there is also a substitute for hard drugs like cocaine.
“I don’t know how to describe it; it’s actually not a pleasant feeling. It’s like some kind of powdered milk,” Vergara told AP Entertainment. Executive producer Eric Newman then confirmed that they used powdered milk.
“It’s not fun to do. I just wanted to do it once; I wanted to make this scene really good so I didn’t have to do it 100 times,” added the actress, who also revealed that she had to learn to “sniff” to play the drug trafficker in the series.
“I learned to sniff from Andrés Baiz, the director. He helped me a lot because I also didn’t know how to smoke. So he would come to my house, and you know, I wanted to make it real. I didn’t want to think about it while acting, so I also wanted to do it before coming to the set.”
