Rebel Wilson’s Book Censored by UK Publisher Due to Allegations Against Sacha Baron Cohen

Rebel Wilson’s memoir titled “Rebel Rising” is facing censorship in the UK due to a report of inappropriate behavior by actor and comedian Sacha Baron Cohen during the filming of the 2016 movie “The Brothers Grimsby,” in which they co-starred.

In the book, Wilson recounts how Cohen made her uncomfortable by requesting that she appear nude in the film. After she refused the request, production hired a body double. Wilson also alleges another distressing moment when Sacha asked her to penetrate him with her finger while filming an intimate scene, which she also declined.

As a result of these allegations, HarperCollins, the British publisher of the book, opted to remove parts of the text in its UK edition, including these allegations made by Wilson against Cohen.

In a statement to ‘The Guardian,’ HarperCollins said the removal was for legal reasons and that it involved a very small part of the total content of the book.

“We are publishing all pages, but for legal reasons, in the UK edition, we have removed most of one page and some other small excerpts, and added an explanatory note. These sections are a very small part of a much larger story.”

In turn, Sacha Baron Cohen, through his representative, praised the publisher’s decision and stated that Rebel Wilson’s allegations were false. The representative also noted that HarperCollins did not fact-check this chapter of the book before publication and only decided to remove the content after receiving evidence that the allegations were unfounded.

“These proven false allegations are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporary documents, footage, and eyewitness accounts from before, during, and after the production of ‘The Brothers Grimsby’ […] Harper Collins did not verify this chapter of the book before publication and took the wise, albeit terribly late, decision to delete the defamatory allegations from Rebel Wilson once presented with evidence that they were false. […] This is a clear victory for Sacha Baron Cohen and confirms what we have been saying from the start – that this is provably false, in a shameful and failed attempt to sell books.”

Rebel Wilson, however, defended her claims and thanked those who supported her from people who shared similar experiences. She also criticized the release of behind-the-scenes videos from the film which, according to her, did not tell the full story, omitting the part where she refused to follow Cohen’s instructions. She claimed that the edited video is an example of bullying and manipulation by Cohen.
