In April 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery announced a TV series based on all seven books written by J.K. Rowling for Harry Potter fans. Now, Channing Dungey, CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, has revealed new details and challenges in the production of the much-anticipated show.

Speaking to the Variety website, Dungey stated that plans for the program are underway, and the team is currently finalizing names for production and casting; “We are talking to several different writers to find out who will be the person leading this franchise for us,” she said.

For Dungey, providing a faithful adaptation of the books to the audience will be a significant challenge, and the search for actors has been particularly difficult, especially for portraying the young protagonists: “The tricky part is the first two books, where the kids are younger, around 11 or 12 years old,” she revealed.

J.K. Rowling will be involved in the project as an executive producer and believes that transforming the books into a series can offer Harry Potter fans a greater depth than was possible in the movies; “The commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to being part of this new adaptation that will allow a degree of depth and detail only provided by a long-running television series,” she said.

Despite the new details about the project, fans will still have to wait a while to see the TV series about the wizard boy on the screens, as its premiere is scheduled for 2025/26.
