Jonathan Roumie, an actor known for portraying Jesus Christ in the series “The Chosen,” was spotted taking a selfie with Pope Leo XIV, delighting the faithful.
The photo was shared on the pontiff’s official profile while he was visiting Vatican City.
“Every time we perform an act of faith directed at Jesus, we grow in our connection with Him, and His grace is immediately granted,” read the caption of the post.
Roumie visited the Vatican on Monday (23rd) after wrapping up filming for part of the sixth season of “The Chosen” in Italy. The series tells the story of Jesus of Nazareth.
He described the visit and meeting with the Pope as a “moving honor.”
“When (Pope Leo XIV) was elected, I cried because I never thought I would see an American pope in my lifetime,” he told the Catholic News Agency.
“The chance to communicate with him in our native language this week is something I never imagined experiencing,” he continued.
Pope Leo XIV was elected in May, becoming the first American pontiff in the history of the Church.
