In an interview on the Real Ones with Jon Bernthal podcast, Pete Davidson revealed the shocking way he found out about his father’s death, who was serving in rescue operations during the World Trade Center attack.

The attacks took place on September 11, 2001, when Al-Qaeda hijacked four planes, crashing two of them into the Twin Towers in New York and one into the Pentagon. The fourth was thwarted by passengers and crew.

The World Trade Center incident claimed nearly 3,000 lives, including Pete Davidson’s father, Scott. Scott Davidson was a firefighter in New York and participated in rescue operations that day.

At the time, Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson was only seven years old. He had made plans with his father to pick him up after school, but he never came back.

“My mom picked me up. She didn’t tell me what was going on for about three days. She kept saying my dad was at work, I had no idea. My mom kept saying, ‘You’re grounded, you can’t watch TV,'” Pete Davidson said.

“I kept thinking, ‘What? I didn’t do anything.’ And then, one night, I turned on the TV and saw my dad on the TV,” he recalled.

The comedian mentioned there was hope of finding more firefighters alive, but that did not materialize.

Pete Davidson said that he now deals with his post-traumatic stress disorder after discovering the loss of his father in that way, and also shared that it has caused him trust issues.

“I’m trying to learn how to trust people, and Hollywood is not the best place to learn that. I went from a traumatic life to a traumatic school life because Hollywood is like high school,” he commented.
