Ozzy died on July 22 at the age of 76 after suffering a heart attack. The musician had already been struggling with several health issues, including Parkinson’s disease, diagnosed in 2019.
Now Jack, 39, gave an interview to talk about the matter, also recalling the last meeting he had with his father right after his final show in the United Kingdom.
“After his show, I spent a week with my kids and some time at the family home in England. It was amazing, my father was in great spirits,” he said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
“It was a lot of fun and, looking back now, I’m very grateful for that time. My dad was great, he was happy,” Jack added.
Ozzy passed away about a week after Jack returned to the U.S., and he received the news after being awakened by a “knock on the door” at 3:45 in the morning.
“Someone who has worked for my family for, my God, probably 30 years, was knocking on my door. When I looked out the window and saw it was him, I just knew.”
“I knew something bad had happened. I was told my father had passed away. Immediately, I don’t know… just pain, just sadness and so many thoughts,” he recalled.
Jack went on to say that, although he felt anger, sadness, and frustration, over the following weeks he was able to find comfort in the fact that his father “is no longer suffering.”
“He’s not going through hardships anymore, and that is something, you know. I wish he was still here. I wish he was still with us, but he was going through a tough time.”
“I think people saw that during the show. But no one expected it to happen so quickly and, when it did, it wasn’t something on our radar,” he added.
Many rumors began circulating after Ozzy’s last show in Birmingham, including one that the musician planned to undergo assisted suicide in Switzerland.
In the video, Jack addressed the subject and labeled those rumors as “false.” “My dad was very happy to have done the show and to be entering this next phase of his life. He wanted to spend more time in England.”
“He wanted to spend more time with my kids. He wanted to spend more time exploring different things, as much as he could,” he concluded.
