During the most recent episode of the podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa, host Oprah Winfrey spoke about the challenges of hosting a talk show that aired from 1986 to 2011.

She told Kelly Ripa that she didn’t miss the show but missed the “connection with the audience.”

“What we did every day became very difficult,” Oprah commented about having to listen to very heavy and complicated stories every day.

She said that talking about people going through major difficulties like cancer, divorce, and other family problems was very emotionally exhausting for her.

“I still have deep respect for all the opportunities we had to enter people’s lives and be there for them in ways that really mattered,” Oprah stated.

On the podcast, she shared a story about one time she was able to take 300 audience members to Australia for an eight-day trip. Although it was a dream, she said it was a logistical nightmare.

“What we didn’t realize was that 90% of the audience didn’t have passports. So the producers went completely crazy trying to get passports in time so people could travel to Australia.”
