The incident occurred on Monday, September 29. According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, armed robbers stormed the premises.

The FCT Commissioner, Ajao Adewale, stated that an investigation is underway to locate the suspects, who shot one of the two security guards before entering the journalist’s apartment.

“In a situation like this, panic is inevitable. Sommie lived on the top floor of the building. Out of fear, she jumped from the third floor, the top of the structure,” explained Adewale.

The journalist’s death was mourned by her colleagues.

“Sommie, 29, was not only a beloved member of the ARISE News family but also a vibrant voice who engaged and connected with our viewers,” the West African broadcaster wrote on Instagram.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Sommie’s parents, siblings, family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” the message continued.
