After seven years since the last film in the franchise, Disney has considered various ideas, including the possibility of a sixth film starring Margot Robbie. However, Bruckheimer announced they are opting for a reboot, which would facilitate production by not relying on certain actors, indicating possible changes in the main cast, including ruling out the possibility of Johnny Depp returning as Jack Sparrow.
The script for the sixth film is being written by Craig Mazin, known for his work on “The Last of Us” and “Chernobyl”, in collaboration with Ted Elliot, the screenwriter of “Shrek” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”.
Mazin described the script as “strange”, and although production does not yet have a set date, filming is expected to begin soon. Joachim Rønning, who directed “Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge”, is confirmed to direct the film, and although the cast has not yet been officially announced, there is speculation about the return of Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom.
