The documentary “Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster” by BBC and Discovery shows what experts believe is the sound of the implosion of OceanGate’s Titan submarine.
The documentary, which premieres on Tuesday (27) on BBC, provides more details about the accident from the perspective of the Titan support team who dived to see the Titanic wreck. The accident happened in June 2023.
On board were OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawood, Dawood’s 19-year-old son Suleman, and French submariner Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
About 90 minutes after the expedition started, the submarine disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean. The submarine’s wreckage was found after four days; everyone inside the sub died in the implosion.
Footage released by the United States Coast Guard shows the team monitoring the expedition hearing the sound of a possible implosion. After the loud noise, the team lost contact with the crew.
Wendy Rush, the CEO’s wife, was following the expedition.
The video also reveals the last messages exchanged between the submarine and the support team. “We released two ballast weights,” said the Titan crew, seconds before losing contact with the surface.
