“Grenfell: Uncovered” arrived on Netflix on June 20 and provides more details about the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy in 2017. The documentary showed more footage from inside the apartments that caught fire.

The fire broke out in a 24-story residential tower in North Kensington, London, caused by an electrical fault in a refrigerator on the fourth floor.

The flames took more than 60 hours to control. About 223 people managed to escape, 72 people died, and more than 70 were injured.

The new footage shows the moment when Marcio Gomes’ family saw smoke filling their apartment. He and his daughter Luana, who was 12 at the time, recounted the tragic incident.

“I remember my father filling the bathtub with water, putting many towels in it, and making sure they were completely soaked,” Luana said.

Marcio stated that his wife Andreia was seven months pregnant with their son Logan and had asthma. Megan, another daughter of Marcio’s aged 10, also suffered from asthma.

“With every moment, things got worse. I opened the door to see what was happening, and there was only smoke,” he said while the documentary showed the footage.

Marcio reported that the smoke was “extremely dense,” “black,” and that he felt like vomiting due to the smell of the air.

They were rescued by firefighters but did not come out unscathed. Luana was diagnosed with cyanide poisoning. Megan and Andreia were put into induced coma.

Andreia gave birth, but her baby was stillborn.

The documentary was described by Netflix users as “painful to watch.” Many lamented that the disaster could have been prevented.
