According to Netflix co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, the platform used artificial intelligence instead of hiring visual effects artists due to a limited budget.

According to a report by Engadget, Sarandos stated that the creators of the sequel to “El Eternauta” used AI tools to generate a scene of a collapsing building.

“Using AI-powered tools, they achieved an incredible result with remarkable speed,” said Netflix’s co-CEO.

“In fact, this visual effects sequence was finished ten times faster than it would have been with traditional VFX tools and workflows,” he continued.

According to Sarandos, the scene from “El Eternauta” contains the first images made with generative artificial intelligence in a Netflix original series or film.
