Reed Hastings, co-founder and chairman of Netflix, has joined the UA1 investment fund, which supports Ukraine’s defense industry amid the war against Russia.

Oleksandr Kamyshin, an advisor to the President of Ukraine on strategic development, shared the news in an interview with Forbes Ukraine, as reported by InVenture.

Hastings, known for his investments in innovation and education, is now directing resources toward strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities through the development of high technology, according to the Ukrainian outlet Militarnyi.

The UA1 fund was founded by William McNulty, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, who began supporting Ukraine at the start of the war against Russia. His journey in the defense technology sector began with investments in 2024, which later evolved into a fully developed fund structure.

Now, the UA1 fund is working to complete its first major funding round, expected to reach $50 million by the end of April 2026. The fund confirmed that Hastings is one of the key partners in its latest funding round.

Most participants in the project are experienced American venture capital investors and representatives from Silicon Valley, who see significant growth potential in Ukraine’s security sector.

Today, the fund’s main objective is to identify and finance technologies that can be rapidly deployed on the battlefield to gain a technological advantage. Priority investment areas include artificial intelligence, electronic warfare systems, drones, robotic systems, and cybersecurity solutions.
