Michael Cera confirmed an old rumor about tensions behind the scenes of the movie “Superbad,” released in 2007.

The film is a comedy about two high school friends, Evan, played by Jonah Hill, and Seth, played by Cera, who want to make the most of their time before heading to different colleges.

Although the cast is full of memorable names like Seth Rogen and Emma Stone, the character McLovin, played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse, became one of the highlights.

However, not everyone in the cast liked Mintz-Plasse from the start. Jonah Hill, who had already been cast as Evan, was irritated by his colleague’s performance during the auditions. Hill reportedly asked the producers not to hire him, thinking Mintz-Plasse was overshadowing his jokes and disrupting his comedic timing.

However, according to Michael Cera during his appearance on Hot Ones, this irritation ultimately contributed to the funny dynamic between the characters.

“I think he [Jonah Hill] felt that Chris was doing better than him comedically… blocking Jonah’s funny lines, which made everything even funnier. This made Jonah try even harder, and the fact that he was irritated made him funnier, while Chris just deflected.”

Despite the initial tensions, Mintz-Plasse was chosen for the role, and the chemistry between the actors worked really well in the film. Cera praised Mintz-Plasse’s talent and confidence, stating that his carefree attitude and authenticity were key to the success of his character.
