MasterChef contestant eliminated after ‘nearly poisoning’ the show’s judges

A contestant from MasterChef UK was eliminated in the second episode of the season after nearly poisoning the show’s judges.

Airing for nearly two decades, contestants on the MasterChef program in the UK still make mistakes that astonish both judges and viewers, and one competitor from the 20th season of the cooking reality show proved that a small mistake can cause significant damage when it comes to food.

Peter, a 49-year-old Scotsman, accidentally put something else in the pot instead of the ingredients he was supposed to use in his preparation, and nearly ‘poisoned the show’s judges, chefs Gregg Wallace and John Torode. When they tasted Peter’s dish, their facial expressions made it clear that something was wrong.

When Torode tasted the caramelized carrots prepared by the amateur cook, he couldn’t hide his discomfort and asked Peter about the preparation of the dish: ‘Wow. What’s the acidic heat on the carrots?’ Peter, not understanding what the chef was talking about, replied: “I used only butter and sugar”.

In reality, Peter made a common kitchen mistake, probably affected by the pressure of the competition, he swapped sugar for salt, nearly ‘poisoning’ the judges with the ultra salty taste of the carrot that was supposed to be sweet.

After his elimination, Peter confessed that nervousness interfered with his cooking and revealed he was disappointed to leave the show so early: “I can’t deny that I’m disappointed. I nearly poisoned John and Gregg with salt instead of sugar”.
