Mariska Hargitay surprised fans after revealing who cut her kissing scene with Christopher Meloni in “Law & Order: SVU“.
The actress, who plays Olivia Benson in the series, told The Hollywood Reporter that she actually filmed a kissing scene with Elliot Stabler, Meloni’s character, during the production of the show’s 24th season.
However, she said the show’s creator, Dick Wolf, had them film another version of the scene in which their characters almost kiss. “I think we felt that moment was earned, that this could happen for a second — and that’s how we filmed it,” Hargitay explained.
Although they filmed the scene “in several different ways,” the actress said that Wolf and the editors chose to air the near-kiss version instead of the full kiss. Both Hargitay and Meloni disagreed with the producers’ decision.
“We disagreed because we felt it was earned, and the way it was handled was really complex and very beautiful and very human, and it showed the complexity of their relationship and all the different ways they are connected.”
In the end, she admitted that although she wished things had been different, she recognizes that Wolf has the final say in the show’s decisions.
