“We got in touch through letters and representatives,” he told People magazine. “We were never in the same place, so it was kind of complicated. I’m a New Yorker and he was from the West Coast,” said the “The Pest” actor.
“It would have been better in person, obviously,” John Leguizamo noted. Recalling the conflict, he said he is “sometimes not the most polite person in the room.”
“I don’t know what it is. Sometimes I hold grudges. Yes, I’ll keep going to therapy and one day I’ll work all of this out,” he reflected.
John Leguizamo and Patrick Swayze starred alongside Wesley Snipes in the 1995 film “Too Wong Foo.” The movie tells the story of three drag queens traveling from New York to Los Angeles for a beauty contest.
Now 65, the actor said the fight nearly escalated to physical violence. In May 2024, he said on “Andy Cohen Live” that working with Swayze was difficult.
“Rest in peace, I love [Patrick]. He was just neurotic, and I’m also neurotic, but… I don’t know… it was tough working with him. Just neurotic, maybe a little insecure,” he noted.
According to John Leguizamo, Swayze “couldn’t keep up” with his improvisations, “and that sometimes made him upset and frustrated.”
“He would say: ‘Are you really going to deliver the line that way?’” he recalled. “And I would respond: ‘You know me. I’m going to be myself. I’m going to keep making up lines.’” The film’s director said she didn’t want Leguizamo to deliver the lines exactly as they were written.
