In a Netflix documentary about Hulk Hogan’s life and career, the wrestler’s family spoke about the last surgery he underwent before his death.
Hogan, who died at the age of 71 after suffering cardiac arrest in July last year, had undergone neck surgery two months before his death.
“Everyone knows he went in for neck surgery. And after the neck surgery, there were some complications,” said Nick Hogan, Hulk Hogan’s son, in the fourth and final episode of the documentary series Hulk Hogan: Real American.
Sky Daily, who was Hogan’s wife at the time of his death, shared a photo of the couple with Netflix taken just days before he underwent his neck surgery. “We’re smiling, his eyes are bright… and he never came back to that place,” she explained.
A representative for the former wrestler, who retired from the sport in 2014, told TMZ in May last year that Hogan had undergone “a minor fusion procedure” to “feel a little better.”
Such surgical procedures were nothing new for Hogan, who told influencer Logan Paul that he had undergone “25 surgeries over the last 10 years,” including “10 back surgeries, both knees, both hips replaced, shoulders—everything.”
Despite this, Nick said that the final weeks of his father’s life were difficult. “It was about two and a half months that we were in and out of hospitals. But he still showed a lot of resilience and strength,” he emphasized.
With tears in her eyes, Sky shared that she wished “he had never had the neck surgery.” Although the cause of Hogan’s death was not clear in the days following his passing, Entertainment Weekly confirmed at the end of July that he had died from a heart attack.
