Hulk Hogan made a revelation about his mental health after divorcing his ex-wife Linda Hogan in a new Netflix documentary about his life and career.
Hogan, who died after suffering cardiac arrest in July 2025, spoke about the topic in his final interview before his death, which was released in the documentary series Hulk Hogan: Real American on Netflix.
During the interview, the former wrestler told producers that he once put a gun in his mouth following the turbulent end of his relationship with Linda, which culminated in their 2009 divorce. The two were married for 26 years and had two children together: Brooke, 37, and Nick, 35.
Hogan explained that their marriage began to fall apart around the time he and his family started starring in Hogan Knows Best, the VH1 reality show about the wrestler’s family life outside the ring. He had hoped the show would strengthen their bond, but it had the opposite effect.
After the divorce, Hogan was in such a bad state that he considered suicide. “I went home and started drinking and, you know, started taking pills, and I just went down that rabbit hole for a few days, and the next thing I know, I’m sitting in front of my bathroom with a gun in my mouth and not knowing what I was doing.”
“I hit rock bottom. I gave Linda 70% of everything because I just didn’t want to talk to her ever again, be with her — I never wanted to see her again. So I gave her everything to get rid of her and after the divorce I had no money.”
After finalizing his divorce from Linda, the longtime WWE and WCW star joined the professional wrestling promotion TNA in late 2009. “I was broke, and then TNA [Total Nonstop Action Wrestling] saved me,” Hogan said in the documentary.
In the documentary, Hogan expressed many regrets related to his career, but told Netflix producers that his happiest moments were with Linda when they were still young and newly married.
Linda, who is also featured in the documentary, expressed her own regret about how their marriage unfolded, saying she still “had love for him” even after the divorce.
“I still care about him the same way, it doesn’t go away. I wish things had been different for us. But when he got sick, I realized my love for him never disappeared. I still had love for him. I really do. I still love him.”
