The biographical film about Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson will cover the period she and her sisters lived through while their mother, “Mama June” Shannon, was addicted to drugs.

In an interview with People magazine on Tuesday (14), Alana Thompson said she is “a little nervous” about the release of her biopic “I Was Honey Boo Boo,” which premieres on the Lifetime channel on May 17.

The 19-year-old said she is apprehensive because she fears her mother June Shannon’s reaction, as the production will portray the period when “Mama June” was battling drug addiction.

“I didn’t want this film to be an attack on my mom or to portray her as a villain,” she explained. “But I didn’t hold back, and if she gets mad, in the end, it’s the truth,” she admitted.

Alana rose to fame on the TLC show “Toddlers & Tiaras,” where she was a child beauty pageant contestant. In 2012, she got her own reality show called “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”

At age 45, June Shannon became addicted to crack during the reality show. She was arrested in 2019 for drug possession along with then-boyfriend Eugene “Geno” Doak.

“People would say: ‘I saw your mom on the news with a broken tooth, completely wrecked,’” Alana told People. “And I would think: ‘Great, as if I hadn’t already seen that myself.’”

Mama June has been sober for five years. She admitted to spending $1 million on drugs, including $35,000 that belonged to Alana.

Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, Alana’s sister, obtained legal custody of her and helped her finish high school. Today, Honey Boo Boo is studying to become a nurse.

In addition to Alana and Lauryn, June was also the mother of Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, who died of cancer in 2023 at age 29, and Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon, now 28.
