Halle Berry, 59, revealed the reason why she went more than a decade without giving interviews to the press.
In a recent interview with The Cut, she explained that even with her long career in cinema, which includes a historic Oscar for Best Actress, she became “tired” of always receiving questions about her relationships.
“After my third divorce, people started saying: ‘What’s wrong with her? She’s crazy. She can’t keep a man.’ I practically stopped doing interviews for a decade because I got tired of the same old story,” Berry said.
These days, it seems the actress is a bit more open to discussing personal and professional highlights. Recently, she announced her engagement to singer Van Hunt during her appearance on The Tonight Show.
She explained that a misunderstanding arose suggesting she had said “no” to Hunt’s marriage proposal. “It’s going around that I — that Van Hunt, I’ve been dating him for almost six years — well, there’s some confusion that he proposed to me and I said no. I didn’t say no,” she said at the time.
Berry, who stars in the film Crime 101 alongside actor Chris Hemsworth, also has other projects ahead, including an action thriller called Maude v Maude, which features Berry and actress Angelina Jolie.
To The Cut, the actress expressed her gratitude for her career so far and for what is still to come. “As a Black woman, now almost 60 years old, I’m still working in films and doing what I love. I’m winning.”
