Lea Thompson recently reflected on her career and joked about how being part of “Back to the Future” made fans get used to her aging.
According to her, people became accustomed to seeing her older after she portrayed characters of different ages in the cult classic starring Michael J. Fox.
“It’s a blessing to have been part of such an iconic, beloved, and globally recognized film,” Thompson told Woman’s World. “It’s interesting, because my character reached 17, 47, and 77 years old, so people are used to seeing me age.”

“It’s hilarious that I’ve been playing the mother of a 17-year-old for 40 years! I’ve really mastered that role,” she commented.
In “Back to the Future”, Thompson plays Lorraine Baines-McFly, the mother of time-traveling teenager Marty McFly (Fox). Across the three films in the franchise, she goes through different time periods and appears as a teenager, a mother, and also as a woman in her seventies.
“The funny thing about wearing that makeup to look older was that I could take it off at the end of the day! Now I use some wonderful skincare products,” she joked to the publication.
Thompson is an active actress and director in Hollywood, increasingly dedicating herself to work behind the camera. She is currently in the Hallmark Channel series “The Chicken Sisters”, where she also directed some episodes.
