Netizens became furious after the announcement of the name of the new series set in the same world as the American version of The Office.

Greg Daniels, co-creator of the successful American version of the series, teamed up with Michael Koman for the series, which will be set in the same world as the original but with a new office environment and also new faces.

However, fans were furious as it seems the new spin-off is called The Paper and will follow “the Dunder Mifflin documentary crew as they focus on a dying Midwestern historic newspaper and their volunteer reporters.”

“They should have kept the original name,” said one user X (Twitter). “Honestly, it doesn’t look anything alike. At this point, I feel like we’re calling it an The Office spin-off just to attract more people,” jabbed another. “That’s the worst title ever,” commented a third.

This isn’t the first time information about the spin-off has divided fans. In late April, sources revealed to Deadline that actor Domhnall Gleeson from Star Wars and actress Sabrina Impacciatore from The White Lotus will be part of the cast of the new series.

In November 2023, Daniels spoke for the first time about creating the subsequent program but revealed he didn’t want to do a remake. “Because I feel like we finished that story beautifully,” he said to The Wrap.

“I would never want to redo the same show with a different cast because I think we have the luckiest, best cast ever on TV to make that show. So, the notion of a reboot is not interesting.”
