Jack Brewer, former NFL player and Trump supporter, appeared on FOX News to share his opinion on the alleged rise in crime in Washington D.C., the capital of the United States.

The issue came to light after Trump announced the federalization of Washington D.C.’s police force this week and deployed the National Guard to fight the “out of control” crime in the capital.

But despite Trump’s claim, crime levels have been declining in the U.S. capital since 2023. Still, Brewer appeared on FOX News to reveal what he sees as the “solution” to crime in the U.S.

According to him, schools should bring back corporal punishment with paddles. “[The solution] starts locally. First, in schools, schools need to start disciplining kids,” Brewer said on Wednesday (20).

“They took the paddle out of schools and everything collapsed. Corporal punishment is the only way out when you have a hard-headed kid who is willing to rob you and me at gunpoint, with a car full of kids or anyone else.”

The clip quickly went viral on social media, with many users criticizing Brewer’s stance. According to some, the comment was a perfect reflection of Trump’s administration, which they said was trying to “beat people into submitting to his rules.”

And this isn’t the first time Brewer has raised the issue. In 2022, he spoke about it during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence, shortly after the Uvalde, Texas massacre.

“If we want to take gun violence seriously, we must first take seriously the idea of bringing the paddle and prayer back to our public schools. We don’t even teach the 10 Commandments in our public schools anymore, let alone hold our children accountable for them.”
