Emma Thompson made the shocking revelation that she turned down Donald Trump after receiving an unexpected call from him in the late 1990s.

The 66-year-old British actress recently recalled the incident during her participation at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

According to her, the call took place in 1998 while she was filming the political comedy Primary Colors, loosely inspired by Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign.

The phone in her trailer rang while she was on set, and to her surprise, the voice on the other end introduced itself as Donald Trump.

“I thought it was a joke: ‘Hello, this is Donald Trump.’ I asked, ‘How can I help you?’. I thought he needed some information,” she recalled.

“He replied: ‘I would love for you to stay at one of my beautiful places, and maybe we could have dinner’,” Thompson said.

At the time, however, the actress was separating from her first husband, actor Kenneth Branagh. “I realized that on that very day my divorce had finally gone through,” she said.

“I bet he has people looking around for suitable individuals he can take out, all those nice divorced ladies,” the actress joked.

“I mean, he found the number to my trailer! That’s stalking! So yes, I could have gone on a date with Donald Trump. I could have changed the course of American history!” Thompson added.
