The singer, who has been nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, thanked the Academy in a video message. Dolly Parton appeared holding an Oscar statuette.

“I grew up in a house with 12 children. That alone teaches you the importance of sharing. Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t have much to share,” began the “If I Hadn’t Been There” singer.

“But my mother and father showed me by example that the more you give, the more blessings come your way,” she continued, adding that she has always tried to follow her parents’ example.
