Actress Danica McKellar, known for playing Winnie Cooper in the series “The Wonder Years”, spoke about the importance of taking a break from her career after the successful show ended in the late 90s.

In an interview with Closer Weekly magazine, Danica McKellar openly discussed her time away from Hollywood. The actress from “The Wonder Years” shared that she needed to “figure out who she was.”

“For me, the way to do that was to do something completely different, really exercise my brain, and leave behind all the glamour and superficiality of Hollywood. It was really empowering for me,” she revealed.

The 50-year-old actress shared that she took a four-year break from acting to earn a degree in mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles.

After completing her degree, Danica McKellar returned to acting in shows like “Love Boat: The Next Wave”, “Even Stevens”, and “Working”.

She also mentioned that she was apprehensive about returning to acting while she was in college.

Today, she is becoming known as a sort of “queen of Christmas movies”. In the fall of 2024, she starred in and wrote “A Cinderella Christmas Ball” for the Great American Family channel.

“It was amazing because I wrote the script with someone else, but it’s the first time my name appeared on the script of one of these films, and that’s really rewarding,” said Danica McKellar.
