Amazon has confirmed that actress Sophie Turner, best known for playing Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, will bring the iconic Lara Croft to life in the Tomb Raider series produced for Prime Video.

Filming is scheduled to begin in January next year, almost two years after the platform officially approved the production.

The series is created, written, and executive produced by actress and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emmy winner for Fleabag. According to Variety (via IGN), the project will also feature Chad Hodge as one of the showrunners and Jonathan van Tulleken as director and executive producer.

On the big screen, the character was previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie in the 2000s and by Alicia Vikander in 2018. Now, Turner takes on the challenge of reinterpreting Lara Croft in a new television version that promises to explore an unseen phase of the heroine.
