“I had one of the worst days I’ve ever had on a film set,” he began. Colin Farrell decided to celebrate his birthday the night before filming. He showed up to the set hungover.
At the time, the star of “The Penguin” was struggling with alcoholism and drug problems.
“It was my birthday, May 31, and we were filming. I begged the production of a 120-million-dollar film if they [could] not make me work on my birthday,” he told Colbert.
“And of course, my call time was 6 a.m. on May 31, and I went wild the night before,” Colin Farrell continued.
“I remember going to bed, and as soon as I turned off the light, the phone rang, and the driver said: ‘It’s 6:10.’ I thought, ‘Oh, sh…’”

The actor from “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” said that David H. Venghaus Jr., the first assistant director, warned him that he couldn’t go to the set in that condition.
Colin Farrell replied: “‘Just get me six Pacific beers and a pack of Marlboro Reds,’” drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
Tom Cruise, meanwhile, was growing tired of Farrell’s drunken episodes on set. The actor revealed that he once had to film a scene 46 times just to deliver one line correctly.
“It was terrible. I’ll never forget the line I couldn’t say. It was: ‘I’m sure you all understand the fundamental paradox of the pre-crime methodology.’ That was the line that started the scene,” he said.
