Chevy Chase, actor and original cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” said in the documentary “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not” that he was upset about being excluded from the SNL special that aired at the beginning of 2025.
The “Community” star spoke openly about how hurt he felt by his lack of involvement in “SNL50: The Anniversary Special.”
“But I expected to be on stage as well with all the other actors. When Garrett [Morris] and Laraine [Newman] went on stage, I wondered why I didn’t. Nobody invited me,” he said.
“Why was I left out?” Chevy Chase asked. “Why was Bill Murray there and why wasn’t I? I have no answer to that,” he said about the Weekend Update segment.
The actor was the first anchor of Weekend Update during the show’s debut season in 1975 until mid-1976. He returned to host the segment eight more times between 1978 and 1997.
He even spoke with Lorne Michaels, the creator of SNL, about his exclusion.

“I said, ‘Okay, I take it back, nonsense.’ But it’s not that much nonsense. Someone made a very serious mistake there. I don’t know who it was, but someone messed up. They should have put me on that stage. That hurt me,” he lamented.
Although he was not invited to the special, Chevy Chase was briefly mentioned by Jimmy Fallon during “SNL 50: The Homecoming Concert.”
The actor’s wife, Jayni, said in the documentary that people “told Chevy up until that day that there were two sketches and that they were going back and forth between them.” “And then suddenly, ‘No, there is no sketch,’” she added.
“I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not” premieres on January 1 on CNN.
