Journalists, politicians, and CBS viewers reacted negatively to the delay of the “60 Minutes” program, which was set to feature interviews with prisoners deported from the US to El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center, CECOT.

The prison has been criticized by human rights groups and Democrats in Congress due to reports of torture. Sources also claim that some prisoners are never released from the facility.
A trailer for the report stated: “Earlier this year, the Trump administration deported hundreds of Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador, a country to which most had no ties, alleging they were terrorists.”
The prison was used by President Trump’s administration to rapidly deport alleged members of Tren de Aragua (TDA) through the Alien Enemies Act.
The use of the prison was challenged in court in March, with plaintiffs arguing that immigrants were being deprived of their right to due process.
The CBS report was to be presented by Sharyn Alfonsi, who spoke with some of the detainees, who described the prison conditions as “brutal and torturous.”

In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, CBS announced that “Inside CECOT” will air in a future broadcast, which many interpreted as censorship by the network.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald criticized Bari Weiss, the executive editor of CBS, who took the position following the merger of Skydance Corporation with Paramount, the network’s parent company.
“It’s almost impressive how much damage Bari Weiss has done to CBS News in such a short time. Someone quickly schedule a prime-time Town Hall with Alan Dershowitz to repair the damage,” Greenwald wrote.
“Bari Weiss has just censored and banned a ‘60 Minutes’ episode that exposed how Trump sent immigrants to be tortured and abused in a concentration camp,” wrote host Kyle Kulinski on BlueSky.
