Darrell Sheets, one of the buyers from the reality show Storage Wars, shared how he made one of the biggest profits ever on the show.

The reality show follows a selection of people who bid on abandoned storage units in hopes that the contents will make them rich. However, this is often not the case.

Most of the time, buyers find themselves faced with a storage unit filled not only with useless things but also with some deeply disturbing items. Since the contents of the units are not revealed until the sale is completed, it’s all a matter of luck.

You could open the doors to find a broken lawnmower or an original Picasso painting, and while unlikely, Sheets showcased this tantalizing possibility that every buyer faces when purchasing a new abandoned storage unit.

This is because Sheets bought a unit for less than $4,000 and, upon opening it, was surprised to discover that it contained a selection of paintings by the Mexican artist Frank Gutierrez, which were appraised by Kathy Gallegos of Avenue 50 Studio Inc.

Gallegos valued the artworks at approximately $300,000, one of the biggest profits in Storage Wars history. Sheets’s son, Brandon, revealed one of the paintings from the locker, prompting Sheets to exclaim, “Oh my God, this is so beautiful.”

“If this is a true Frank Gutierrez, this thing could be worth thousands [of dollars]. It’s a heart at the top with a woman’s arms holding two babies over blue birds in a nest,” Sheets added.
