A British radio station caused confusion and panic among listeners after mistakenly announcing the death of King Charles III during a live broadcast.
The incident happened during a Radio Caroline broadcast last Tuesday (19). According to the station, a computer error accidentally activated the special protocol prepared for the death of a British monarch.
Regular programming was interrupted, and presenters announced that broadcasts had been suspended “as a sign of respect” for the king’s supposed death. The station then played God Save the King before remaining silent for about 15 minutes.
The station’s manager, Peter Moore, issued an official apology on social media and said the protocol had been unintentionally triggered due to a technical failure. According to him, the silence during the broadcast helped the team quickly realize that something was wrong and restore normal programming.
The false announcement quickly spread across social media, especially because Charles III’s health has remained under public scrutiny since the monarch revealed in 2024 that he was undergoing cancer treatment.
Despite occasional rumors about his health condition, the king continues to carry out official duties normally. In fact, at the time of the mistake, Charles III and Queen Camilla were on an official visit to Northern Ireland attending public events.
