Bill Skarsgård is often remembered for his role as the sinister Pennywise in It, but the actor admitted that he was a little taken aback by his character in his upcoming horror film.
The 34-year-old Swedish actor recently spoke about his role in Robert Eggers‘ remake of the gothic classic Nosferatu and admitted that he was so scared that he swore never to play villains again.
The film, which is set to premiere on December 25 and will hit theaters on January 1, features other big names in its cast, such as Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, and Emma Corrin.
Set in Germany, the film tells the story of a young woman named Ellen Hutter (Depp) who is being pursued by an ancient vampire named Count Orlok (Skarsgård). Based on Skarsgård’s own reaction, it’s safe to say unimaginable horrors will unfold.
“When we were done, I thought, ‘I never want to play something so evil again.’ [This role] really affected me. Orlok is an occult sorcerer, and it affected me in terms of just trying to inhabit that space,” he told Empire.
