In Friday’s (20) episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the comedian commented on Donald Trump’s criticism posted on Truth Social regarding a dinner the two had in April 2025 at the White House.
Bill Maher said he woke up on Valentine’s Day Saturday and saw the president’s angry messages.
“He was very mad at me because I didn’t understand his joke about how China will make Canada give up hockey,” he began.
In his post, Donald Trump mentioned Bill Maher for allegedly taking seriously the comments about Canada giving up hockey.
“I jokingly stated in a Truth post that ‘the first thing China will do is end all ice hockey played in Canada and permanently eliminate the Stanley Cup,’” Trump wrote.
“Fortunately, his show’s ratings are so low that no one will hear about his many fake news statements about me,” the U.S. president continued.

“I think we’re going to have to work on that joke for a while,” Bill Maher joked. The comedian said he now understands how women feel when men pay for dinner and expect something in return.
“Okay, it was a margarita. It wasn’t vodka. And it wasn’t immediate. I had a drink before dinner, like people do. He said I was nervous, scared, lacking confidence — nonsense,” the comedian explained.
Trump’s comments suggested that Maher stopped criticizing his administration after the dinner, to which the talk show host replied, “I never stopped criticizing him.”
“I never said I would stop! Now I know how women feel: a guy pays for dinner and expects something in return. I’m not that guy,” Bill Maher said.
