Jon Stewart, host of The Daily Show, will not be able to count on Barack Obama as a potential replacement if he decides to leave the program again.
The revelation was made by Obama himself on Monday (4) in a conversation with The New Yorker. During the interview, the former U.S. president explained that he has chosen to be selective when speaking out about politics, especially regarding the current president, Donald Trump.
“For me to function as Jon Stewart, even once a week, just going out there, just [making fun] of what was happening, then I am not a political leader, I am a commentator. By the way, I am glad Jon is doing it,” Obama warned.
He also admitted that he is still involved in politics, even “more than I would have preferred,” and that this has caused serious “tension” in his marriage with Michelle, who, according to his wife, would like him to be “enjoying what remains of our lives.”
“The media environment is so difficult that people don’t even know all the things I am doing. And, I think, when they see me, then the feeling is, well, why isn’t he doing this every day instead of just during a midterm election, or during a referendum campaign on gerrymandering, or whatever you have?” Obama reflected.
Although he remains involved in political life, Obama also has a busy schedule in other aspects of his life. He will be a guest on The Late Show this Tuesday (5) before Stephen Colbert says goodbye to the show in a few weeks.
Then, in June, the new series by Larry David, produced by Obama, Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, is set to premiere on HBO, with Obama appearing alongside David in an episode of the comedy program.
